Lights, Camera, Vows!

Lights… ( or rather the lightbulb moment 💡) as I introduce you to my top 10 film quotes about marriage…
If you’re planning your wedding ceremony and want something more than the usual registrar fare…“We are gathered here today…”
The good news is you don’t have to settle for yawn-worthy scripts. Whether you’re a pair of romantics, fantasy fanatics, or proper film buffs, your wedding can be bursting with quotes, nods, and magical moments inspired by the silver screen.
I’m a huge fan of couples adding their kind of magic to their day, and there’s nothing better than a few iconic film lines to really bring the wow, the whimsy, and the feels to a wedding ceremony.
So, without further ado… camera 🎥 !
My Top 10 Film Quotes About Marriage
Let’s start with my absolute favourite!!
1.“Mawwiage. Mawwiage is what bwings us togeder tooday.”
The Princess Bride. The ultimate opening line for film lovers who don’t take themselves too seriously. Full re-enactment? I’m so game… Here’s the full quote…I’ll just go grab me robes whilst you mull it over…
The Impressive Clergyman: Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togethar tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam…And wuv, twu wuv, will fowow yoo foweva…So tweasar your wuv.
Prince Humperdinck: Skip to the end.
The Impressive Clergyman: Have you the wing?
Prince Humperdinck: Man and wife. Say man and wife.
The Impressive Clergyman: Man an’ wife.
2. “As you wish.”
The Princess Bride again… Romantic, timeless, and oh-so-quotable. Slip it into your vows or ring exchange for a hidden gem moment. Just don’t ask me to roll down any hills and I won’t expect you to battle any Rodents Of Unusual Size (ROUS) in the fire swamp…
3. “I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings .For couples who’ve survived epic quests (like moving house together), this one hits right in the feels. Arwen to Aragorn, the ultimate promise, expressing love and commitment.
4. “To me, you are perfect.”
Love Actually. Say no more. This is the mic-drop of wedding quotes and perfect for a Christmas themed ceremony, complete with cue cards and a Christmas soundtrack in the background.
5. “Commander, I don’t think you can analyze love. It’s the greatest mystery of all. No one knows why it happens or doesn’t. Love is a chance combination of elements. Any one thing might be enough to keep it from igniting, a mood, a glance, or a remark. And if we could define love, predict it, it would probably lose its power.” Star Trek Voyager (ok so not a film…but still a fabulous quote for Trekkies)
6. “When you realise you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
When Harry Met Sally. This line would make a fab lead-in to your vows…AND…it’s yet another classic Yuletide film quote. Perfect for a wedding at the start of a New Year…
7. “You make me want to be a better man.”
As Good As It Gets. Raw, real, and ridiculously touching. Perfect for your vows. (It’s not often Jack Nicholson gets to share a tender moment expressing his love after a realisation that he wanted to change himself for the person he fell in love with).
8. “My heart, it feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it doesn’t belong to me anymore. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I’d wish for nothing in exchange. No gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine.” Stardust . It has it all, starlight, starbright…Yvaine was just so magical…
9. “My dearest friend, If you don’t mind, I’d like to join you by your side. Where we could gaze into the stars, and sit together, now and forever. For it is plain as anyone could see, we’re simply meant to be.”
The Nightmare Before Christmas. Classic Jack Skellington. There are a few quotes in this film that make pretty epic wedding vows, another one I’m up for a full re-enactment on
10. “Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away.”
Hitch. Use it to close your ceremony with all the romantic drama your heart desires. Thanks Will!
Want More Magic? Here Are Some Film & Fantasy Inspired Extras!
Let’s take things up a notch…beyond the quotes and into epic ceremony content your guests will never forget.
Dramatic Readings
Let a guest channel their inner wizard, elf, or awkward Hugh Grant. Readings from Stardust, LOTR, or even Shrek can be both hilarious and heartfelt.
Potion Mixing Ceremony
Straight from a number of magical films! Mix a symbolic ‘love potion’ with colourful water, herbs, or glitter. Assign meanings to each element… honesty, laughter, weirdness, resilience… and a dash of chaos.
Script-Style Ceremonies
We could even structure your ceremony like a film script
Scene I: The Meeting of Souls
Scene II: The Vows of Destiny
Scene III: The Kiss to Break the Curse
Let’s create the perfect opening for me to narrate for you …It could be anything from Tolkien, Love Actually, or even Star Trek…The universe really is your inspiration and oyster.
Epic Soundtracks
Walk in to Concerning Hobbits. Tie the knot to A Window to the Past. Skip or march down the aisle as newlyweds to The Imperial March (…or Married Life from Up, if you’re feeling cute).
Enchanted Vows
Add a fandom flourish to your promises:
“I solemnly swear I am up to no good.”
“You are my sun and stars.”
“My precious…” (Okay, maybe not that one.)
Quote Backdrops
Use your favourite line as a neon sign or ceremony arch:
“To me, you are perfect.”
“As you wish.”
At The End of The Day…
When all is said and done…Your ceremony should be more than just words, it should invoke a special feeling for you and your guests. Magical or whimsical, fantasy or a true rom com, let’s work together to channel it and the pure movie magic of your favourite films.

Because mawwiage is what brings us together today, and yours should be unforgettable.
